The five major aspects

A conjunction is near zero degrees, a sextile near sixty, a square near ninety, a trine near one hundred twenty and an opposition near one hundred eighty. These angles are measured around the zodiac. The relationship matters alongside the planets involved, not instead of their meanings.

What an orb means

An orb is the allowed distance from the exact aspect angle. Astrologers use different orb conventions depending on the planets and technique. A close aspect generally receives more emphasis than a wide one. Record the convention rather than treating every line drawn by software as equally significant.

Support and tension

Trines and sextiles are often interpreted as cooperative relationships; squares and oppositions as contrasting demands. A conjunction blends or intensifies themes and depends strongly on the planets involved. Challenging does not mean harmful, and an easy connection does not guarantee a result without effort.

Read one relationship at a time

Name each planet's symbolic function, then describe how the angle connects them. Mercury and Saturn, for example, can raise questions about how expression relates to structure or restraint. The interpretation still needs context; a single aspect cannot establish intelligence, honesty or a psychological diagnosis.

Natal aspects and transits

A natal aspect belongs to the birth chart. A transit aspect compares a moving planet with a natal position or another current planet. These are different reference frames. Check the date, exact degrees and chart type before carrying an interpretation from one technique into another.
