What a house adds

A sign describes an interpretive style; a house gives a context. Mercury in a sign speaks to communication style, while Mercury in a house places emphasis on a particular life area. Houses and signs are not interchangeable even when an introductory guide uses similar keywords for them.

Houses one through six

The first concerns self-presentation and beginnings; the second values and possessions; the third everyday learning and communication. The fourth concerns home and roots, the fifth creativity and enjoyment, and the sixth routines and service. These categories are broad enough to require context rather than literal prediction.

Houses seven through twelve

The seventh concerns partnership, the eighth shared resources, and the ninth wider learning and worldview. The tenth relates to public role and vocation, the eleventh to groups and shared aims, and the twelfth to withdrawal and less visible experiences. A placement does not guarantee an event in any of these areas.

Why house systems differ

Whole-sign houses assign a full sign to each house beginning with the rising sign. Quadrant systems divide space using angles and other rules. Planets can change house between systems without changing their zodiac position. Choose a method deliberately and avoid switching only to obtain a preferred interpretation.

Empty houses still exist

A house with no natal planet is not an absent or doomed part of life. Astrologers may study its cusp sign and ruler. Begin with a few relevant placements rather than attempting to give every house equal weight. Without reliable birth time, leave house-specific conclusions open.

Our guides use Western tropical astrology as a symbolic tradition for reflection. They do not establish scientific personality categories or guaranteed predictions.
